"The Deal"
Coraline Scene Remake

Overview
Coraline is a movie that is comprised of stop motion animation camera shots. For our project, we took the “Deal” scene and recreated it in real life, using many camera angles and shooting techniques. Then we put the whole thing together using different Adobe Creative Cloud tools. This project was really fun to make because our group got to act out the scenes!
Details

We are re-enacting a scene from Coraline in which the protagonist, Coraline, proposes a deal with the Other Mother to decide whether she will stay trapped in the other world and button sewn into her eyes, or be reunited with her parents and home world. Kaitlyn will be playing Coraline and Langden as the Other Mother. Winston and Florence will be in charge of camera work and audio.
We chose this scene because it has a variety of thoughtful camera angles that properly reflect the themes and tones conveyed throughout the movie. The emotions that we settled on are; unease and intrigue. We picked these emotions based on the context this scene is set. This particular scene is a turning point of the tone within the movie, officially setting off the third act and plunging the movie head first into a thriller. The tension built up to this point comes at an all time high, with the scene setting tangible stakes, but due to the sharp turn in mood, you don’t know what will happen next.
The reason we chose this scene over others is not only due to the unique significance this scene has, but also the achievability. This scene compared to the other ones we looked at was the most achievable given our scale and budget. The camera work, although meaningful, is quite simple and involves little extra equipment. In addition with the few sets that are found within the scene, they are all extremely easy to find in an average home.
A challenge that may occur in this project is that almost everyone, apart from Winston, within this group has not acted, filmed, or directed in any serious manner previous to this. Having so many people all at once trying to drive the scene may lead to a hectic work environment. In addition, ⅔ of this project will be completed leading up to exam week, thus everyone will be extremely busy with other course work and may not be as available or productive as they would be in other circumstances.
